For the love of LA

A few weeks ago, the LA Local staff came together for an end of year retreat at the California Endowment.

While I just started at this new role in November, I know what we are setting out to do is something special and unique.

I loved getting to know more about my colleagues. From our playlist to the our white elephant book exchange, I appreciate these moments of intentionality along with an inspiring conversation with board member Kevin Merida.

Technically we were all still “new” - so it’s a rare opportunity to be a founding member of something and create something to serve audiences in the number 2 market in the country.

Even more so, what was poignant is what fuels each of us to do this work. Yes, trying something different can be scary but sometimes that’s is what is needed the most. None of us have all the answers but what we do know is three things - community, collaboration and connection.

From our hyper local neighborhood newsrooms to supporting and collaborating with our partners to our youth journalists and civic engagement programs, it’s all towards serving our audiences.

More to come as we head into the new year.
