Today marks my 1 year anniversary at The LA Local and what a difference a year makes. In 12 months, we launched The LA Local website, welcomed the Long Beach Post and Long Beach Business Journal into the fold and so much more.
We've learned so much and there's still much more to learn as we continue to grow and I'm thankful to be part of something that aligns so closely to what I already do in personal life - to connect with community and foster a sense of belonging.
Thank you to Kristen Muller and Michele Siqueiros for leading the way.
An upcoming event that I've had a chance to help bring to life is our 250th project, “Decisions That Defined Us: 250 Years of Belonging and Exclusion in America,” which uses landmark California court cases to explore who has been included in, and excluded from, the promise of America and how communities today can write the next chapter of that story. Check out the series: https://thelalocal.org/decisions/ and the accompanying event - a live reenactment of Korematsu v. United States on Nov. 12 in partnership the Japanese American National Museum's Democracy Center with special thanks to Asian American Bar Association of New York for the script (The Nov. 12 reenactment is directed by Jeff Liu, with confirmed cast: George Takei, Tamlyn Tomita, Evan Handler, Spencer Garrett, Angela Lewis, Emily Kuroda, Kyla Garcia, Dante Basco and special appearances by: Karen Korematsu, Dale Minami, Lorraine Bannai).
Today is also Election Day, so you haven't voted yet, this is the day - check out our live blog https://thelalocal.org/government/election/live-updates-election-day-los-angeles/ and our election hub: https://thelalocal.org/elections/
